St-Loup Chapel

Localarchitecture designs a temporary chapel to accommodate religious worship during renovate main chapel for Deaconess Community of St-Loup, Switzerland. It becomes spatial reinterpretation example of a traditional religious space in harmony with its environment. The architects developed a structure using timber panels, which makes it possible to cover large areas with fine sections. Constructed straight on the ground, the new chapel blends with the landscape and lets in plenty of natural light through transparent plastic panels in the gable side facades. The design creates a space whose horizontal and vertical dimensions contrast through a series of origami-like folds that give rhythm to the interior and exterior of the building. The structure interrupts the interior space, while creating an atmosphere encouraging to reflection.
