Mercado Grocery is an uber-luxury food marketplace located in Bowen Hills in Brisbane. England had Harrods, Italy has Eataly, and now Australia has Mercado.

Mercado Grocery is the jewel in the crown of the Brisbane’s premier retail and dining precinct. This shopping locale has beautifully crafted shelves and counters packed to the hilt with everything from seafood, meats, cheeses, breads, pastries, chocolates, fruits, vegetables and everyday convenience items, to specialty teas, wines and more. A partnership was formed between the Mercado Group and Mahallati Interiors along with Dreamtime Australia Design, BSPN architects and Apollo property developers to see the dreams of head honcho Tony Nguyen realized. Mahallati Interiors became the bridge between the different firms that comprised the team – coordinating the design, development and production. Mercado Grocery is the ultimate food marketplace with fresh produce, two restaurants, patisserie and wine cellar.

Visitors will be amazed in every step of their journey through the multitude of bespoke produce displays created by Mahallati Interiors from warm and naturally finished solid Teak and Teak veneered marine grade MDF (medium-density-fibreboard). These Teak pieces have an endless variety of bright brass accents and trims that go together in perfect harmony. The overall outlook is modern, but the material choice and the multitude of curved elements used in the designs lends a retro flavor. Items like the tall and imposing bottle arrays with multiple shelves and pigeonholes are just stunning. As are the round bottle displays and other shelving units exhibiting nouveau flavor with their curved ends and brass clad plinths. The giant circular seafood display is a masterpiece in style and execution with its massive circumference and extensive brass trim pieces. In addition to the produce displays we have the restaurant furniture and bespoke one-off couches, sofas and counters to complete this extraordinary layout.

Round and square bistro tables are made in the same natural Teak with brass accents, while stained black Mahogany bentwood chairs provide seating with comfort and contrast. Bar height versions of these chairs occupy the bar height bistro tables as well as other black stained bar height tables, and the bespoke bar counter with funky tiling and faux marble fascia. Look even further still into the layout and you will find the Teak items augmented by cabinetry pieces in solid European White Oak. The wow factor here is almost limitless and everywhere you look your eyes are treated to fine examples of bespoke furniture making and superior execution of interior design.

This is truly a world class shopping center manufactured in its entirety, including sampling and development, by Mahallati Interiors. The team at Mahallati provided technical and material advice, as well as construction advice to the developers. They undertook the entire intricate production right down to the final fit and finish and quality control, all while liaising with the designers and developers. They organized the door to door shipping – from manufacturing facility to site -- of the entire collection of carefully packed delicate elements. The team also provided construction and assembly manuals for the on-site team, as well as the necessary guarantees and warranties on the products themselves. The Mercado Brisbane is an awesome fresh food market so beautifully presented that the customers take-away from shopping there is a feeling of joy.
